Instructions for set up: 

1. The individual pieces on each page need to be separated, so please take a few minutes to get the book set up before giving it to your child.  While this can be done by pulling them apart, scissors can speed up this process by snipping the small parts that connect pieces.
2. As the felt is new and “pristine”, a few pieces may not stick at first. However, the more you use it, the easier the pieces stick. (Brushing the pages with a clean toothbrush or hairbrush will help the pieces to stick.)
3. Besides being a fun coordination activity, the blue zipper on the back page doubles as a storage pocket for the pieces and allows for secure storage when the book is being carried around! 

Recommended for ages 3 and up.  Adult Supervision always recommended.

Standing upon the site where Mary appeared to Adele Brise in 1859, The National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion is the first National Shrine in the United States with an approved Marian apparition.

In 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to a Mexican Indian named Juan Diego. When Juan Diego's bishop asked for proof of Mary's appearance, Mary told Juan to gather roses in his tilma (cloak) in the middle of winter. When Juan Diego brought the flowers to the bishop, a miraculous image of Mary appeared on the tilma. Today, the beautiful image is enshrined in Mexico City for all to see.

Feast Day: December 12

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is Mary's title as patroness of the Carmelite Order, which began on Mount Carmel near Jerusalem more than 800 years ago. Our Lady of Mount Carmel is most often seen on the brown scapular, a sacramental worn around the neck. The scapular is a silent prayer that tells Mary throughout the day that we venerate her, love her and trust in her protection.

Inspired by these words of St. Irenaeus, a German artist painted "Mary, Undoer of Knots" in 1700. Pope Francis saw the image while in Germany and shared it with the world. Mary, Undoer of Knots resonates deeply with millions who suffer from the many problems, or "knots," of life.

Nicholas Black Elk was a relative of Crazy Horse, witnessed the Battle of Little Bighorn, and performed for the Queen of England in Buffalo Bill’s traveling show. But above all, he was a Christian who honored the spirituality and traditions of his ancestors.

In 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to a Mexican peasant named Juan Diego and asked him to have a church built at the site of the apparition. Seeking proof, Juan Diego’s bishop asked him for a sign. Mary told Juan Diego to gather flowers in his tilma (a Mexican garment) and take them to the bishop. When Juan Diego poured out the flowers, the bishop saw on his tilma the miraculous image of Mary. Today, the image is on display in Mexico City for all to see.

Nicholas, a generous 3rd-century bishop, came from a wealthy family. Legend has it that Nicholas would toss bags of gold through the windows of families who needed money to secure good marriages for their daughters. Over time, a gift-giving tradition grew around Saint Nicholas. In fact, every Christmas we all invite him to celebrate with us, but his name sounds a little different - you know him as Santa Claus!
