If you could ask Pope Francis one question, what would it be?

Children have questions and struggles just like adults, but rarely are they given the chance to voice their concerns and ask the big questions resting deep in their hearts. In Dear Pope Francis, Pope Francis gives them that chance and celebrates their spiritual depth by directly answering questions from children around the world. Some are fun. Some are serious. And some will quietly break your heart. But all of them are from children who deserve to know and feel God's unconditional love.

    More Info

"... You will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden."

Bestselling author Anthony DeStefano begins his creative telling of the beloved Bible story of Christ's triumphant entry by introducing the young donkey who has yet to realize his important mission. The lowly creature believes he can do nothing noble, but that's before he meets the Master...

Then Jesus said to the donkey,
    "It's time that you knew
    About the great thing
    That you're destined to do..."
He hears the sad donkey cry,
"Just leave me alone and cast me aside.
I'm just a poor donkey that no one can ride."

Richard Cowdrey's colorful illustrations pair beautifully with Anthony's charming rhymes. Together, they bring this timeless story of the donkey who carries Jesus into Jerusalem to a joyful finish. While especially appropriate as an Easter gift, this year-round story is for all time and for young and old alike.

In 1975, Mother Elizabeth Seton was canonized as America's first native-born Roman Catholic saint. This Vision Book tells the inspiring true story of the life of Elizabeth Bayley Seton from her childhood in a distinguished New York family to her becoming a sister and foundress of an order of nuns.

Born in 1774, Elizabeth Bayley grew up in a well-to-do Protestant family and seemed destined for a tranquil life. At age 19 she married William Seton and together they had five children. Tragedy struck when William died of tuberculosis in 1803. Elizabeth learned that her family fortune was lost as well. She converted to Catholicism at a time when Catholics were the object of persecutions in the United States.

Her family was shocked by this decision. Elizabeth met Bishop Carroll of Maryland, and he gave her the inspiration to found the American Sisters of Charity and the first American parochial Catholic school. In time her order of sisters flourished, and they established more schools, orphanages and hospitals across the United States. At her early death (46 years old) Mother Seton's congregation numbered twenty-one communities throughout the country. Illustrated

Saint John Vianney, A Priest for All People

Saint John Vianney, A Priest for All People

    $7.95
    More Info

John Mary Vianney was born near Lyons, France, in 1786. He loved to pray and when he was eighteen, he asked his father's permission to become a priest. John studied under Father Balley. The priest was very patient but Latin soon became a major problem for John. After much study, John was finally able to enter the seminary. Studies were hard. No matter how much he tried, he never did very well. When the final examinations came, they were spoken, not written. John had to face a board of teachers and answer their questions.

Father Balley spoke up for John. He pointed out that John was a good and holy man, he was full of common sense, and he understood what the Church taught about the faith. It was agreed that these qualities made up for what John was lacking in learning and he was ordained. At first, he was appointed as Father Balley's curate, assisting him until his death in 1817. Then Father Vianney was sent to a little parish called Ars, where he would spend the rest of his life. When he first arrived, the people of Ars did not care much about their faith.

They drank too much, worked all day Sunday, and never went to church. Many used terrible language. Father Vianney fasted and did penance for his people. He tried to stop them from sinning. Eventually, one tavern after another closed down because business became so slow. People began to worship regularly on Sundays and attended weekday Mass. The swearing was not so frequent. What had happened in Ars? "Our priest is a saint," the people would say, "and we must obey him." God gave John the power to see into people's minds and to know the future.

Because of this gift, he converted many sinners and helped people make the right decisions. St. John Vianney was proclaimed a saint in 1925 by Pope Pius XI. The stories of saints open up new windows for a child's understanding of right and wrong, and the story of St. John Vianney is particularly powerful in doing this. A child who reads this story will also experience the value of the sacraments.

SERIES DESCRIPTION: The Encounter the Saints series offers intermediate readers relatable portrayals of the saints. Each story, in a handy format, vividly recreates the saint's place of origin, family life, and corresponding historical events.
